Spectral and Cepstral Based Acoustic Features of Voices with Muscle Tension Dysphonia

چکیده
Muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) is a voice disorder that occurs as a result of misuse or abuse of the voice [1]. While there is no neurological damage to the larynx nor any structural abnormality present, patients with MTD have limitations in vocal vibrations due to laryngeal muscle tension. Consequently, such patients demonstrate pathological voice problems, such as hoarseness, strained and strangled voice, and voice tremors. Speech and language pathology has attempted to describe the acoustic features of patients with MTD or other voice disorders based on perceptual assessment, which evaluates dysphonia severity or information regarding voice quality, and instrumental assessment, which evaluates acoustic analysis results. The goal of objective assessment, in particular, is to take a variety of acoustic approaches to distinguish the voice of dysphonic patients from that of normal speakers. Recent findings on the clinical usefulness of cepstral and spectral parameters have Purpose: This study aimed to examine the cepstral and spectral acoustic features of patients with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD).

TOWARD VALIDATION OF AN ACOUSTIC INDEX OF DYSPHONIA SEVERITY by
This study investigated the relationship between a cepstral/spectral index of dysphonia severity (i.e., the CSID) and listener severity ratings of disordered voices. To assess the value of the CSID as a potential objective treatment outcomes tool, preand posttreatment samples of continuous speech and sustained vowel /a/ productions were elicited from 112 patients (with varying degrees of dyspho...
متن کاملEffects of Voice Therapy on Vocal Tract Discomfort in Muscle Tension Dysphonia
Introduction: Patients with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) suffer from several physical discomforts in their vocal tract. However, few studies have examined the effects of voice therapy (VT) on the vocal tract discomfort (VTD) in patients with voice disorders. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of VT on the VTD in patients with MTD. Materi...
متن کاملEmpirical mode decomposition-based spectral acoustic cues for disordered voices analysis
Cepstral-based acoustic cues for disordered voices analysis have been investigated in a number of studies. It has been shown that cepstral-based acoustic cues such as the harmonics-to-noise ratio (HNR), the amplitude of the first rhamonic (R1A) provide acoustic correlates for hoarse voice quality. The aim of this presentation is to investigate an acoustic analysis of speech by means of spectral...
متن کاملPatient-Based Assessment of Effectiveness of Voice Therapy in Vocal Mass Lesions with Secondary Muscle Tension Dysphonia
Introduction: Use of patient-based voice assessment scales is an appropriate method that is frequently used to demonstrate effectiveness of voice therapy. This study was aimed at determining the effectiveness ofvoice therapy among patients with secondary muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) and vocal mass lesions. Materials and Methods: The study design was prospective, with within-participant repe...
متن کاملThe Relationship Between Acoustic Characteristics and Personality Dimensions in Patients With Dysphonia
Objectives: Voice is influenced by personality. However, it is still questionable which acoustic features are influenced by personality traits. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between acoustic characteristics and personality dimensions. Methods: Thirty-three participants with dysphonia and 33 participants without dysphonia were recruited to take part in this cross-sectional st...
